“How to Make Splash on Social Media” is a TED talk made by Alex Ohanian, who is a part of the creators of the social news website Reddit, where he explains how his website helped Greenpeace choose a name for a whale and actually saving them in Japan. It is important to mention that Reddit works by posting stuff that you like and people votes on whether they like it or not, a lot of memes were created there. There was this campaign Greenpeace was doing where they wanted to save whales from being hunt in Japan, and they wanted to do it by tracking a whale and they wanted to name it. A lot of people were voting on really fancy names, but a smart guy decided that he wanted the whale to be named “Mr. Splashy Pants”. He went on to Reddit and said “Hey guys, there’s this thing on Greenpeace to save whales, let’s name this one Mr. Splashy Pants and win ok? Ok” and it worked. A lot ofpeople voted, Reddit changed their logo for a whale at that time and they wonwith 70% of the votes, but Greenpeace didn’t like this so they give more timefor the poll to close and for another name to win. Nonetheless Mr. SplashyPants won, Greenpeace sold merch about it and they actually saved the whales. This is an example of how by creating a meme and making other people interested you can help in a good cause, you don’t have to be all serious to help in something. The internet is about that, creating content and conversations so people get caught in and participate.

Weekly Blog #10: Pls let's go already
HIIII, I feel really crappy today I don't know why, I have fever and my joints hurt so bad. Guess I am finally dying and have a good night of eternal sleep. However, I am still doomed with this blog, so here's what we saw last week (even though I don't remember that well).
What I learn last week in SMRT 140
- Controlling deforestation in Brazil
- Paraphrasing
- Xmas Exchange
You know SMRT wanted us to solve dorestation? Well we did, and this week we had an activity that consisted on watching a video that was related with deforestation. I was paired with Paola, and we had to watch a video about how Brazil is dealing with deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. It was really unfair that we had to make an outline of TWO VIDEOS, and everyone else just had to watch one, but it is fine, I'll get over it. It was really sad that we worked so hard to make the outline and we couldn't present. All because of a policemen presentation about how we shouldn't throw shade at them all the time. We'll probably present tomorrow so, prepare for awesomeness.
Another skill that worked last week was paraphrasing. There were several paragraphs that were taken from previous activities.and that we had to write again but weith our words. It was easy because we've done it several times in the past blocks. I don't have complaints about this, can you believe it?! WOOOoOooOw
The coolest thing about last week was that we planned our Christmas exchange, I am very excited and I want to give my gift already.
The word of the week is:
Deforestation (because it's the only word I remember)
Sorry for not adding gifs, I feel really bad. I love youuuuu byeeEEE.

Weekly Blog #9: SCIENCE FAIR STRESSES ME OUT
EDIT: I ADDED THE GIFS HIIII
HELLOOO IT’S YOUR FAVORITE ANNOYING TEEN GIRL.
HELLOOO IT’S YOUR FAVORITE ANNOYING TEEN GIRL.
As always, I did this at the last minute posible and the internet is gone! My sister and I are having a breakdown; however, I am a responsible procrastinator so I am doing this on my phone. There won’t be funny gifs becausr of this, so I apologize in advance. I love you. ❤️ Here’s what we saw last week:
What I saw last week on SMRT 140:
- Deforestation
- HOW TO SOLVE DEFORESTATION FOR DUMMIES 101
- Science fair is going to be the death of me
Last week we made activities about deforestation in Canada, mainly reading and listening, and it wasn’t that boring actually. We kept seeing how Canada manages to be one of the countries in all the world with a big forestry industry that doesn’t exploit their forests that much. I think we should learn from them and start taking them as an example.
Remember how Smrt wanted us to learn how to solve world poverty? Well, now they want us to solve deforestation too, isn’t that great? Hormonal 17 years old apparently know better than world leaders, but oh well. Miss K gave us time on Thrusday to come up with our action plan; I couldn’t work that well because I was really stressed out because of SCIENCE FAIR, but I believe Janice and I have a not so bad plan to keep trees alive on Earth.
In other news, SCIENCE FAIR ALMOST KILLED ME! It is relevant because it is our Smrt grade for our project this block, so it is important. We made a thermoelectric flashlight, and IT WORKED! All the presentation were amazing, I thing that the first places are going to be very tied. Omg there was a team that lasted for 48832884&328 presenting, it was super long, I thought their presentation was never going to finish, their idea was cool though.
Let’s all thank the revolución mexicana because we didn’t have classes today, thank you Mexico you are the real MVP.
This week’s vocabulary word is:
Afforestation

Weekly Update #8: Meh
I guess I am back with this blog because I have to, and I don't want to disappoint Miss K.
Not feeling good, but here's what we saw last week:
What I learned last week in SMRT 140
- Nuclear Energy
- Extreme Quiz of Animal Farm
- The Old Man and the Sea
- Unit 8
Remember I was complaining about how we had to make an essay about nuclear energy and how I was dreading the fact that I had to present, well it happened.
We kept seeing this topic and we did the essay (which turned out to be a lot more than 500 words), and it wasn't that bad. At first I thought it was going to be a boring topic and that I was not going to like it at all; however, I feel like we learned a lot from it. Nuclear energy is not that bad, sure it has its ups and downs, but it is a grat source of energy that can satisfy a lot of people.
A bad thingfrom this presentation was that it got very repetitive, but still, I found it very fun and interesting, plus we got to see me have a breakdown so, you're welcome (sorry about that).
We also had to make an extreme quiz of animal farm last week. IT WAS OF 64 QUESTIONS WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!!!??!¡ Some questions were really specific and I had to look at the story several times. However, the story was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. 10/10 would read again.
Now that we are talking about reading and stuff, we also had to read the first part of the "short" story The Old Man and the Sea. So far I am liking it alot. It is about an old fisherman in Cuba, that has had a bad luck streak and that is not planning on extending it, so he goes one more time and has spend, until now, 3 days on his boat trying to catch a fish.
I feel really sad about the old man, and how he is trying not to give up. I am looing forward into finishing it and finding out how the story will end. Please don't let the old man die. :(
On friday we started Unit 8, with deforestation. We couldn't finish the activity but it seems like a nice and not so boring topic, so I am not complaining about it ... yet.
The word of the week is:
Livestock
Thanks for reading, and sorry for my breakdown. I love you.

Weekly Update #7: I AM BACK CHUMPS!
I thought I wasn't going to come back to this hell, but here I am so, SURPRISE!
I know I haven't updated you with my boring and sad educational life, but i was so relieved when I though I was going to get rif of this, BUT WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD LIFE SUCKS! And it also hates me so I am here with new boring content that I will complain about. Enjoy :) Here's what we saw last week (and two days of this one):

What I learned last week (and 2 days of this one) in SMRT 140
- Homelessness (Paola's lifestyle)
- Nuclear Energy
- ANIMAL FARMMMMM
- THAT'S IT BECAUSE I DON'T REMEMBER K BY
Last week and this one, we kept working with different abilities to develop with the topic of homelessness. The information was quite repetitive, talking about how this social problem is happening in Canada, its main causes, and what thr country is doing in trying to solve it.
Thy introduced us to a new type of writing exercise, where they make us agains our will, try and correct certain parts of the main text we kept reading, but without looking to the original one. Even though I am very lazy and I do not enjoy doing it, I recognize that it is a great way to improve our wirting skills and test our grammar knowledge that we've learned through the years.
Reading and listening is basically the same repetitive stuff theu make us do, that we still do not do correctly.
OOOOH SOMETHING REALLY COOL was the football cup the organized for homeless people around the world. Even though I am bad at any sport that you could think of, I believe that this is a great way of motivate and improve the lives of numerous homeless.
THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO BE THAT POSITIVE AND SERIOUS FOR THAT MUCH TIME? HAAAAA think twice. Even though homelessness is a real problem that we need to solve and deal with and that affects a lot of people, SMRT needs to step it up with the topics. YOU LISTENED CANADA?! I propose: Life and carreer of Robin Sparkles.
We are now entering to a new topic, which is nuclear energy. I think there will be a lot of debate on this because I think it is very controversial the usage of this type of energy in developed countries, since a lot of accidents can occur.
HOWEVER, THEY ARE MAKING ME DO AN ESSAY AND PRESENT ABOUT IT, which I am not happy about but I have to suck it up and do it as the school slave I am to keep up with my nerdy image.
The last thing that I am going to talk about is animal farm, which is a reading that only Aaron finished reading because we are all a bunch of lazy losers that never puts attention and we didn't realize it was for homework (just like we sordear with the blog) . We are doing better and doing what we are supposed to now (really late as always).
The word of the week is:
MUNICIPALITY
Sadly, we are going to keep seeing each other every week again, let's cry together. I LOVE YOUUUUUU THANKS FOR READING DRINK WATER THANK YOU BYEEEE!

Weekly Update #6: AHAHAHAHH MARIAAAA
I know you missed me last week, BUT I AM BACK WITH SOME CRAPPY CONTENT. YAAAY
This week, we didn't have that many classes because we had a lot of conferences in the auditorium. WE SAW SPIDEEEERS, and we had a talk about trips and also a sexist talk about skirts. However, we still managed to do stuff in SMRT because we are exploited. Here's what we saw last week:

What I learned last week in SMRT 140
- Poverty (hell of presentations)
- Addiction
- Animal Farm
On poverty, we basically did listenings and readings about it. They magically wanted us to solve poverty apparently, because if world leaders can't do it, then a 17 year old unstable girl probably can, am I right?
As a part of our project, we had to make a 500 word essay about the topic with a focus of whatever we wanted. Then we had to present it to the class in 5 minutes. However, as we are all cowards, nobody wanted to go first, so Miss K had to look for extreme alternatives, so we had to pic a piece of paper, and the one that got the shortest was the one presenting first. IT WAS MARIA AJAHAHAHHAHAHA AND IT WAS HILARIOUS. Here i'll leave you a representation of the paper, the man on the left is Maria's paper.
We had to read a pretty short (long af) story called animal farm. I was hesistant about it because I thought it was going to be very boring; however, I got surprised at how much I liked it. It is a very strong critique to society, and how humans control the world. I'll keep you updated om the story 'cause we haven't finish it yet.
On addiction, we only made a reading activity which was pretty long but very interesting. When I think about addiction I always picture drugs, but now I realized that there are also behavioral addictions. Our brains are amazing, right? My addiction is chocolate, here's proof:
The word of the week is:
SYNAPSE
Thanks for reading I love you so MUUUUCHHHHH!

CHINESE AND WESTERN MEDICINE IS GONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WUWUWUWUWUW
Hi, welcome to my blog :)
I am happy to announce that this hell of a topic is gone, here is what we saw last week:
Hi, welcome to my blog :)
I am happy to announce that this hell of a topic is gone, here is what we saw last week:
What I learned last week in SMRT 140
- Animal Farm
- Poverty
- Presentatiooooons
I totally forgot that we had to read this "short" story, that I still haven't read by tha way. Miss Karitza reminded us, but it is for next week, and I still don't know for which day. I am guessing it will be for friday (please miss I beg you).
On friday we started with a new topic in reading: poverty. Right now, they want us to focus on the pre-reading of the lectures. They give us 30 seconds to scan de text, and after that time we need to have an idea of what the lecture is about, what thesis statement is, and main points. It is a boring topic, but anything is better than Chinese and Western medicine.
The topic that we focused the most was the presentation that we had for Thursday. We will make in this block 3 presentations that will evaluate our project. I was very stressed because I thought I was going to make it right. My first topic was about "Why do people care more about pets than other humans". WE HAD TO MAKE AN 800 WORD ESSAY! What is going on SMRT? You are failing me.
I had fun with all of the presentations, they where really interesting and Janice had to present for like a thousand hours. 😂😂😂😂
